Our research for Somerset County Council comprised two stages of qualitative research to inform their customer engagement and commissioning strategy.

Stage 1 involved interviews with Somerset Residents, including older people living in sheltered accommodation and carers, to understand their use, understanding and views of council services. The research was used to help target these services and develop a communications strategy based on resident needs.

The second stage of research was with community and voluntary groups, such as the Royal British Legion, Active Living and community transport groups, to gauge their willingness and capacity for taking on services previously run by the county council. This research gave us a valuable insight into the demands being placed on local authorities tasked with implementing the Government’s Big Society agenda.
